Eduardo Solá (Chagas Lima) is Associate Professor of Music at Burman University (Canada), where he teaches music history, music theory, violin, and directs the Burman University Symphony Orchestra (BUSO). He holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction from Andrews University (Michigan, USA), an M.A. in Musicology and Music Theory from the University of Toronto (Canada), a B.Mus. in Baroque Violin Performance from the Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag (The Netherlands), and a B.Mus. in Violin Performance from Paraná State University (Brazil).
Working as a concert violinist, Dr. Solá performs extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and the Americas in concerts, projects, and recordings. As a baroque violinist, he has performed in main concert halls alongside renowned artists such as Sigiswald Kuijken, Richard Egarr, Sebastian Marq, Barthold Kuijken, and Philippe Pierlot. He recently started performing with Rosa Barocca (Alberta, Canada). As a modern violinist, Dr. Solá worked frequently with Paraná Symphony Orchestra (Brazil), PUC-PR Chamber Orchestra (Brazil), and recently joined the Central Alberta Chamber Orchestra (Alberta, Canada).
Dr. Solá is passionate about education, leading to a doctorate in curriculum theory. Before joining the Burman University faculty, he worked as a music educator within the K-12 school setting teaching choir and music theory at College Park Elementary School and Kingsway College (Ontario, Canada). He was also faculty with Sistema Toronto, teaching violin and choir at St. Martin de Porres Catholic School and Military Trail Public School.
Actively engaged in academic research, Dr. Solá's interests currently feature topics in education, music education, music theory, historical musicology, and systematic musicology. His scholarly contributions have addressed issues in historical musicology, music theory, music cognition, music synesthesia, music education, and the phenomenology of music perception. He holds an increasing record of scholarly publications and appears internationally as speaker at research conferences. Recently, Dr. Solá published the first Portuguese translation and commented edition of Francesco Geminiani's The Art of Playing on the Violin (Paco Editorial, 2021) and the monograph Fugue Analysis: A Practical Guide (Peter Lang, 2023).
Dr. Solá lives in Lacombe (Alberta, Canada) with his wife and two cats. In his free time, he enjoys biking, canoeing, playing video and board games, illustrating, and gardening.
